Great news! The Stone Course opened with summer greens on Friday 1st of April!
The previous weekend saw some nice warm weather which helped melt the snow on the Stone Course and dry it out enough to allow us to open up for play on Friday. There was still some snow in bunkers but we will do our best to break it up and help that melt as well.
While visually the greens are not nice and green, the grass and roots appear to be quite healthy. We have already brushed and cut the greens this week so putts should roll reasonably well. If we get some nice warm weather over the coming days and weeks resulting in higher soil temperatures we the greens should be in excellent condition very shortly.
While the Stone Course is open for play, we don´t want to make any predictions as to when the Sea Course will open. About half of the Sea Course fairways still have a significant ammount of snow on them, and those fairways which are free of snow are quite wet. So please be patient with the opening of the Sea Course and we will continue to work hard and get it open as soon as possible.
So with the outdoor season upon us, we would like to take this opportunity to remind you golfers of a few things you can do to help get the course get back in tip-top shape as soon as possible:
- While warming up on the driving range please hit off the mats! GRASS DRIVING RANGE TEE AREAS ARE CLOSED! The turf on the range tee is currently too weak to support the number of players that would want to hit off the natural turf. Even making one or two pratice shots on the tee is too many because then someone else will take a couple practice swings, then the next person takes a couple practice shots, etc. and next thing you know there are hundreds of divots on the tee. If we protect the range tee now when it is weak, the tee will be much healthier for the majority of the season.
- If you happen to take an electric cart on to the course, please park it a minimum of 5 meters away from greens and tees. These areas are still a little wet and heavy cart traffic in these areas will result in significant wear and tear. Also, do not drive carts between greens and bunkers.
- We would also ask players to park their pull carts 5 meters away from putting surfaces. The wear and tear caused by foot traffic is not quite as dramatic as that of power carts, but everything we can do to keep traffic away from greens will be beneficial in the long run. Also, please try to avoid taking your pull cart between a green and a bunker. Again, the wear and tear may not be as quick to appear versus a power cart, but if you make a concious effort to avoid these narrow areas, the green surrounds (and collars in particular) will improve much quicker.
- And last but not least, PLEASE FIX YOUR PITCH MARKS ON THE GREENS!!An unrepaired ball mark on the green is an ugly sight to leave for the group behind you, and not to mention could interfere with a putt. Think of fixing your ball mark as a reward for hitting a good approach shot! Please watch the following Youtube video to see how to repair a ball mark properly. A properly repaired ball mark will be unnoticeable within two to three days, but an unrepaired or improperly repaired ball mark can take up to three weeks to heal. If we follow the "golden rule" of ball mark repair: "fix your own and one more," unsightly ball marks will be a thing of the past!
Our Clubhouse is open and the restaurant is open as of the second week of April. The Stone Course green fee is only 35€ for 9 and 59€ for 18 holes. The playing right for the Stone Course in 2016 is 490€ including HCP and Sea+Stone Course candidate membership is 1230€.
